About BERT AND BEE LTD
An information technology company that builds, integrates and maintains software, with a preference for clear thinking, small steps and systems that remain understandable long after they are delivered.
Company overview
BERT AND BEE LTD works across custom software development, web applications, cloud infrastructure, integration, quality assurance and technical support. The company operates as an engineering partner: involved in shaping what should be built, responsible for building it, and available to keep it running afterwards.
Engagements vary in size, from a focused piece of integration work to a full application delivered over several phases. What stays consistent is the way work is organised — a written scope, incremental delivery, and a visible record of decisions.
Technology should reduce friction, not add it
Our mission is to make everyday work easier for the organisations we build for. Software earns its place when it removes a manual step, prevents an error or makes a decision faster — not when it merely adds features.
- Understand the problem before proposing a solution.
- Prefer the simplest design that satisfies the requirement.
- Write down decisions, assumptions and trade-offs.
- Deliver something usable early and improve it deliberately.
- Say plainly what is uncertain or not yet known.

Approach to technology and problem-solving
Technology choices follow the problem. We look at the constraints first — existing systems, data volumes, integrations, the skills available to maintain the result — and then select tools that fit rather than tools that are simply current.
Problems are broken down until each part can be reasoned about on its own. Where a question cannot be answered by discussion, a small prototype or spike is used to get evidence before committing to an approach.

Working philosophy
We work in short cycles with visible output. Long stretches of unreviewed development tend to drift from what was needed, so progress is shown regularly and plans are adjusted while adjustment is still cheap.
We also take maintenance seriously as a design input. Code is written for the person who will read it next: consistent structure, meaningful names, documented decisions and tests that describe intended behaviour.
Commitment to quality
Quality is built through practice rather than promised in advance: code review on changes, automated tests around important behaviour, manual review of critical paths, and staging environments that resemble production closely enough to be useful.
When a defect reaches production, it is recorded, fixed and — where sensible — covered by a test so the same failure does not return quietly.

Collaboration approach
Collaboration is written-first and transparent. Scope, priorities, open questions and changes live in a shared, readable place. Meetings are used for decisions and demonstrations rather than reporting.
Clients keep ownership of their repositories, environments and data throughout an engagement. Handover material is produced as work proceeds, not assembled at the end.
